Inspired by NASCAR, the song gets it's title from the way drivers judge their speed. There is not a speedometer in the race car, the tachometer is their measure of how hard they are driving. 9000 RPM is about the top speeds around 200 MPH. It is also the title track for the album, from the opening lyrics: How does it feel behind the wheel....
